Avoiding the Void

Watch minute 9:37-10:32 (or simply enjoy a trip to the past)

SpongeBob SquarePants: SB-129 from Waksack2 on Vimeo.

When faced with the feeling of being part of the void, we act out of desperation to not be left in oblivion. Squidward, when faced with the void, demonstrates this behavior entirely. He feels his voice fading into the abyss, forgotten below the human threshold of hearing. Anything he attempts to emit is empty.

How would it feel to live in a constant void? To live as if your words were empty to everyone but yourself.

The erratic behavior he presented after mere seconds of being unheard , is how 2/3rd's of the world are currently living today.

My task of picking coins from the ground and finding them a bigger purpose is symbolic when referring to this issue. Yes, a few coins can and will go a long way in many other aspects but this task requires something intangible–doing more with less.

The internet, is our most important medium of connection. This bridge between the world and the individual, allows for many impossibilities to seem possible.

It is a resource to acquire knowledgeable, to find necessities at a moments cost, to find people and places, to find a better life.

What have you not googled? Aren’t search engines the most intimate friends you hold guiding you through life, allowing you to make mistakes but subtly correcting them along the way. They undoubtedly make our lives much simpler, so why not share that luxury with the world?

Currently, there is 4.5 billion people in the world who do not know of the possibilities that having a connection to the internet holds, but when making ends meet is your economic status, things other than food and water have no worth.

1/3rd of the world today does not see loss in the inability for others to be connected to an endless knowledge base, that third of the world holds this resource in the palm of their hands.

Imagine a world where the internet was available to everyone. For us, this would mean the limitless accounts of experience from different people, their stories, what they have to bring to the table in the sense of wisdom and much more unimaginable contributions. For them, an opportunity to enrich their lives with endless knowledge, medicinal resources, innovative ways to do more with less, find cheap food resources and where to find them, shelters, safe places for their family, and like you've heard before the list is seemingly endless oozing with possibilities of bettering the lives of those facing economic stagnation.

Like Squidward, he who is desperate becomes inconsolable. Unlike Squidward, this is the real world, and in the real world, he who is being forgotten into a state of oblivion lives in the bustling streets of India, in the slums of Colombia, or in the populated outskirts of China, etc. You can find a Squidward in every society, fighting against invisible forces to be heard amidst crowds of people.

If we know of everything we know of today, because of our availability to stay connected, imagine the limitless knowledge or experiences we would acquire from those living so long with the aguish of empty voices and words.

We are the ones missing out on the possibility to hear humanities cries.

Through the internet we expose others to different mentalities, important and innovative ideas and new things.

When you do more with less, you make room for others. You send an invitation into your world and allow another to feel as enriched and as purposeful as you. Sharing experiences, knowledge, and resources is what makes us human. Keeping each other connected, constantly finding ways to better the lives of those in need and listening instead of merely hearing noise is the purpose of looking at the bigger picture.

Imagine what the world is missing out on...
